We’ve degraded terrorists’ operational capacity — Defence Minister, Gen. Musa

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, has declared that the operational capacity of terrorist groups, bandits and other criminal elements has been significantly degraded across several parts of the country.

Gen. Musa made the assertion while assessing ongoing military operations nationwide, noting that sustained offensives by the Armed Forces have weakened the ability of insurgents and other non-state actors to plan, coordinate and execute large-scale attacks.

According to him, improved intelligence gathering, joint operations among the armed forces and other security agencies, as well as increased deployment of troops and equipment, have contributed to recent gains recorded in multiple operational theatres.

The Defence Minister said security forces have successfully dismantled several terrorist camps, disrupted supply routes and neutralised key operatives, forcing criminal elements to retreat and operate in smaller, less coordinated units.

Gen. Musa, however, acknowledged that security challenges persist in some areas and stressed that military operations remain ongoing to ensure lasting peace. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the armed forces with the resources required to sustain the momentum against terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality.

He also called for continued cooperation from local communities, stressing that timely intelligence from residents remains critical to the success of counter-terrorism and internal security efforts across the country.
