We have started the extradition of Diezani- Presidency, says Ibori will still be prosecuted in Nigeria

Special Assistant to the President on Prosecutions who is also the Chairman, Recovery of Public Property Panel, Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla has disclosed that the anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has commenced the extradition of former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison Maueke from United Kigdom.
Obono-Obla in an interview with the Sunday Punch, Nigeria has an extradition treaty with the UK, adding that is just for the country to activate the process.
“We have an extradition treaty with the UK. It’s just for Nigeria to activate the process and application will be filed in the UK court. They will grant it and bring her back to Nigeria. The EFCC has told us that they would not mind to initiate the extradition process. It is not an issue.
Has the process started?
When asked if the process has started, Obla said: “It has to start from the EFCC because it is the EFCC that is doing the investigation. But the EFCC did say that they were in the process.
On whether former governor of Delta State who was convicted in the UK going to be prosecuted in Nigeria again; the presidential assistant on prosecution affirmed, yes!
“Why not? The Court of Appeal set aside the ruling that quashed the 148 counts.
“Why not? The case has not been withdrawn. So, the case is ongoing. It is better you ask the EFCC what they are doing about the matter. I don’t think Ibori went on an appeal to the Supreme Court to challenge the Court of Appeal’s judgment.
