Warlords behead level 13 civil servant , cook, eat body

A level 13 civil servant in Ebonyi state has been killed in a renewed crisis between the people of Enyigba, Abakaliki local government area of the state and their Alike-Ikwo in Ikwo local government area of the state.

The two neighbouring communities have been at war since 30 years.

Early this year, six persons were killed with markets and other properties worth millions of naira destroyed.

Angered by the killings, Umahi declared that the state government has taken over the disputed land and ordered security agents to shoot-at-sight anybody found encroaching the land.

Umahi made the declaration at exco chambers, government house Abakaliki during a security meeting with stakeholders of the two local
governments with all the security chiefs in attendance.

The crisis stopped following the Governor’s action.

But yesterday, it resurfaced with a level 13 civil servant from Ikwo allegedly killed by the warlords.

His body was allegedly cooked and eaten by the warlords.

The incident was disclosed yesterday at a burial of a seasoned journalist, Comrade Jerry Ogbonnaya in Omege Noyo Ikwo local government area of the state by a friend of the deceased.

Immediately the man who was in tears while disclosing the incident finished saying it, sympathizers who attended the burial started
leaving the venue.

Omege Noyo is close to the war zone.

Trouble started when one of the warring communities encroached the disputed land which angered the rival community, leading to serious
shoot-out.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer ASP Loveth Odah said the state Command has deployed Mopol commander and other
policemen to the war zone to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

She, however, said the command has not received the report of the killing of the level 13 officer with his body cooked and eaten-up by
the warlords in the renewed hostilities.

“Actually, during management meeting today(yesterday), the Commissioner of Police received a report from COMOPOL that the crisis
in Enyigba/Alike Ikwo has been renewed. He told the CP that there were heavy shootings there.

“The Coordinator of the area said he has instructed his people to stop further shootings. But even after the instruction, there were still
shootings but the Mopol commander has been deployed into the area. He was instructed to remain there until peace returns and he is there.
Police APC(Armoured Personnel Carrier) is there and the two police units around the area have deployed their men to ensure that the
situation was brought under control.

“Government took over the disputed land to stop the crisis. Some people went there and started doing activities there and from there,
the crisis erupted again and they started shootings”, she said.
