War against insurgents: Nigeria to sign military pact with Russia
Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari is expected to sign some military agreements with Russia to boost war against Boko Haram terrorists at the sideline of a three-day Russia-Africa Summit in Sochi, Russia.
Russian News Agency reports that the first Russia-Africa summit is scheduled to hold in Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Sochi on October 23rd to 25th
The summit to be chaired by the Russian and Egyptian presidents will focus on exploring and expanding opportunities in security, trade and investment, science and technology, and gas production between Russia and African nations.
Nigerian president, 34 other African leaders including leaders of regional unions and institutions are expected to attend the summit which will bring fresh perspectives to some global issues and challenges like nuclear technology, energy development, digital transformation, environment, technical security, mining and steel, education, agriculture, infrastructure and development strategies.
The summit, the first of its kind in the history of the Russia-Africa ties will be preceded by an economic forum, called the Russia-Africa Economic Forum, which the participating African leaders and representatives of Russian, African and international commercial companies will attend.
President Muhammadu Buhari who departs Abuja on Monday (Today) for the event is scheduled to meet President Vladimir Putin of Russia to further strengthen relations in security, trade and investment, as well as build partnership that will enhance Nigeria’s huge gas potential, following Russia’s remarkable success in gas exportation. to attend a three-day Russia-Africa Summit in Sochi, Russia.
President Buhari will be accompanied on the journey by Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State and Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.
Others on the trip are: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo, Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite and Minister of State, Petroleum, Timipre Sylva.
