ValueJet Drama: KWAM1 issued public apology

Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1, has issued a public apology over the incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

In a personally signed statement, K1 expressed deep regret to all parties affected, while stressing that the flask in question contained only water, not alcohol.

He extended his apology to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet Airlines, and his supporters worldwide.

“The incident that took place at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport involving myself and ValueJet was most unfortunate.

I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor has strongly advised that I remain constantly hydrated. For this reason, I carry a water flask at all times. Contrary to false reports, the flask I had that day contained only water — not alcohol.

For clarity, I passed through two security checkpoints with the flask empty. It was only filled with water at the lounge before heading to the tarmac — a fact that can be confirmed by CCTV footage. At no time was I deboarded, as has been wrongly suggested.

I regret any concern the incident may have caused. My loyalty to Nigeria is unquestionable, and I have spent over five decades promoting our culture and music globally. I would never deliberately act in a way that could damage my reputation or that of my beloved country.

To the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, my fellow Nigerians, and my global fan base, I offer my heartfelt and unreserved apology.”

K1 reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the values of Nigerian music and culture, promising to remain a worthy ambassador for the nation.
