US officials to visit Nigeria on Christian protection, counterterrorism talks
A high-level delegation of United States officials is set to visit Nigeria to engage the Federal Government in discussions on the protection of Christian communities and the strengthening of counterterrorism efforts.
The US State Department disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the visit forms part of a broader diplomatic tour covering Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
According to the statement, the week-long tour will run from January 21 to January 29, during which the delegation will hold meetings with government officials and other key stakeholders in the countries to be visited.
The State Department said the engagements will focus on advancing cooperation on security, religious freedom, and measures aimed at countering terrorism and violent extremism.
While specific dates and details of the Nigeria meetings were not disclosed, the visit underscores Washington’s continued interest in supporting Nigeria’s efforts to address security challenges and promote the protection of vulnerable communities.
The delegation is also expected to review ongoing partnerships and explore areas for deeper collaboration as part of the United States’ broader diplomatic and security engagements across the regions on the tour.
