Udeme Ufot named Chairman of inaugural QEDNG Creative Powerhouse Summit

Mighty Media Plus Network Limited, the publisher of online news platform QEDNG, has announced Udeme Ufot as Chairman of its first-ever Creative Powerhouse Summit.

Ufot, the Group Managing Director of renowned marketing communications group SO&U, will lead the high-profile summit scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

With the theme “Financing as Catalysts for a Thriving Creative Economy,” the summit aims to gather leading voices from across the creative landscape—including investors, policymakers, established professionals, and emerging talents—to explore innovative funding strategies and promote sustainable growth in the sector.

Olumide Iyanda, CEO of Mighty Media Plus and the summit’s convener, said Ufot was selected for his extensive contributions to Nigeria’s creative and media industries.

“Mr. Ufot’s deep understanding of the creative economy, paired with his long-standing relationship with QEDNG since our inception in 2014, makes him the ideal person to steer conversations at the summit. His leadership will energize discussions around strategic partnerships and sustainable financing for creatives,” Iyanda noted.

He added that the summit would also foster dialogue between creatives and financial institutions, provide practical tools for managing creative enterprises, and create collaborative opportunities between industry stakeholders.

Ufot’s involvement with QEDNG dates back to its founding, where his guidance played a pivotal role in shaping the platform’s editorial vision and brand identity.

A trailblazer in Nigeria’s advertising scene, Ufot began his professional journey in 1984 at Insight Communications and later co-founded SO&U in 1990—just months after serving as Creative Director at CASERS. Under his leadership, SO&U has grown into one of Africa’s most respected agencies.

A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a degree in Industrial Design, Ufot also completed executive programs at the Swedish Institute of Management and Lagos Business School.

He has served in several leadership capacities, including President of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), Chairman of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), and Board Chair of the Policy Innovation Centre. He is also a board member of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) and co-chairs its THECS Policy Commission, which focuses on tourism, entertainment, and the creative economy.

Ufot is deeply committed to mentoring young professionals and lectures at Pan-Atlantic University’s School of Media and Communication, where he also chairs the advisory board. His dedication to youth leadership is evident through his former role as Board Chair of LEAP Africa, and he also sits on the board of Special Olympics Nigeria.

In recognition of his contributions to the business and creative sectors, Ufot was conferred with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) by the Federal Government in 2014.

He is married to Dorothy Udeme Ufot, SAN, and they have two children.

The QEDNG Creative Powerhouse Summit is open to participants across sectors, including advertising, film, music, fashion, academia, and finance. It promises to be a major platform for driving collaboration, innovation, and strategic investment in Nigeria’s creative economy.
