UBEC MANAGEMENT RESTRATEGIZES ITS OPERATIONS FOR GREATER EFFICIENCY

The Management of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is set to offer a more proactive and result oriented leadership towards ensuring improved UBE service delivery in the country. This new disposition is coming on the heels of the just concluded Expanded Management Retreat for UBEC officers of on Grade Level 15 – 17 held in Kaduna, Kaduna State from March 14th – 18th, 2018. The Retreat with the theme ‘Turn Around Strategies in Achieving the Objectives of Basic Education Programme in Nigeria’ provided opportunity for high level UBEC officials to re-strategize and take necessary steps for repositioning its various service delivery components for greater effectiveness.
Addressing the opening session of the high level meeting, UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi appreciated Federal Government’s resolve to lay a solid foundation for the country’s socio-economic development through the provision of inclusive and quality basic education.
He noted however that the enormity of UBE delivery challenges in the country places a huge responsibility on UBEC and other stakeholders and demands that they take necessary steps in reinvigorating the UBE delivery administrative machinery for optimum results.
He therefore encouraged participants to discuss frankly and use the opportunity provided by the Retreat to re-strategize and proffer solutions that would help in moving UBE delivery in the country forward. He expressed optimism that the outcomes and recommendations of the strategic meeting will assist in fashioning out improved mechanisms for addressing challenges associated with UBE system management.
Along the same line, other key speakers at the Retreat were unanimous in their submission that through the retreat, UBEC will be able to build the kind of management structure and service delivery system that can produce expected results.
Resource persons at the 4-day retreat comprised members of UBEC Management and other eminent scholars including Prof. Gidado Tahir of the University of Abuja and also a former UBEC Executive Secretary, Prof. S. A. S. Galadanchi, Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Dr. Mairo Mandara of Girl Child Concerns, Dr. Abdurahman Umar of DFID, Dr. Samuel Ankeli, Senior Special Assistant to Mr. President on Disability Matters.
In line with the theme of the retreat, presentations made by resource persons addressed UBE management and implementation issues including UBEC mandate, service delivery and relationship with stakeholders, human resource development, emerging trends in data and strategic planning, Out-of-school children, Teacher Education, Girl/Boy-child, Special Needs and Tsangaya Education among others. The Expanded UBEC Management Retreat was facilitated by Polar-Afrique, a training consultant based in Abuja.
