UBEC holds strategic stakeholder engagement meeting with Directors of Social Mobilisation of SUBEBs

UBEC and SUBEB officials charged with responsibility for managing the social mobilization processes in basic education institutions have converged in Kano for a 5-day meeting and training on stakeholder engagement in the delivery of basic education in the country. The meeting coming on the heels of renewed efforts by UBEC Management to reinvigorate the mobilization component seeks to lay a solid foundation for effective UBE delivery seryices especially at the grassroots.

The meeting which is being held at the Ni’imah Guest Palace, Kano, involves participants from the 36 States and the FCT and seeks among other things to institutionalize a formidable strategy for mainstreaming social mobilization into core basic education delivery processes and develop a Social Mobilization Guidebook for use by UBEC and SUBEBs.

UBEC Executive Secretary who was represented at the opening event by the Deputy Executive Secretary (Services), Dr. Yakubu Gambo noted that the success of the UBE programme will depend largely on meaningful stakeholder engagement, participation and support across National, State and LGEA/community levels. The Executive Secretary reiterated the fact that Directors of Social Mobilization at the SUBEB level are expected to serve as change agents and catalysts for effective mobilization of resources for the attainment of access, quality and equity goals in the delivery of basic education in the country. He further informed participants of ongoing efforts in reviving the School Based Management (SBMC) intervention as well as the Community Initiated Self-Help component of the UBE programme.

Major stakeholders at the meeting including SUBEB Directors of Social Mobilization, International Development partners; UNICEF, DFID and officials of the Kano SUBEB applauded UBEC management for taking the initiative to revive the mobilization process which they considered key to the attainment of the full potential of the UBE programme. The meeting which commenced on Monday, September 2nd, 2018 will end on Friday, September 7th, 2018.
