Two ministers, six others die in an helicopter crash

Ghana’s Defence Minister, Edward Omane Boamah, and Environment Minister, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, are among eight people who lost their lives in a helicopter crash today, August 6, in the southern Ashanti region.

Confirming the incident, Chief of Staff to the Ghanaian President, Julius Debrah, said the ill-fated Z9 helicopter was travelling from Accra to the mining town of Obuasi when contact was lost.

According to the Ghana Armed Forces, the aircraft was carrying five passengers and three crew members at the time.

Debrah announced that national flags will be flown at half-mast until further notice.

This is a developing story.
