Two foreign nationals die in accident involving Anthony Joshua on Lagos–Ibadan Expressway
The Ogun State Government has confirmed that two people who died in a road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, were foreign nationals.
The fatal crash occurred on Monday along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, around the Makun axis of the state. Joshua reportedly escaped death in the incident.
In a statement, the state government said Joshua was travelling from Lagos to Sagamu with three other individuals when the sport utility vehicle conveying them rammed into a stationary truck parked along the expressway.
According to preliminary findings, the deceased were two male foreign nationals who died instantly at the scene. Their bodies have been deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu.
Joshua and the driver of the vehicle were rescued by security operatives attached to his convoy and rushed to a hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention. Other occupants of the vehicle were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries and are also undergoing treatment.
The damaged vehicle has been evacuated to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division office, while arrangements are ongoing to tow the truck involved to the same location to enable a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the accident.
Describing the incident as painful and deeply unfortunate, the Ogun State Government expressed deep condolences to the families, friends and associates of the deceased. The government also prayed for the repose of the departed souls and for the speedy recovery of those injured.
Motorists were advised to exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations, particularly during the festive period when traffic volume is high. Road safety officials and other security agencies were urged to intensify patrols and enforcement across the state to prevent further loss of lives.
