Trump and the Demystification of Democracy.

By Kayode Odunaro

For years now, I cross swords with some intellectually challenged individuals who at the drop of the hat will make comparisons between Nigeria/Africa and USA /other “civilised clime” to opine that we are doing badly in our evolving and developing democracy and governance.

It started way back during the military era where I counted myself on the side of advocates of “home grown democracy “. And beginning with Yahoo groups and further blossoming of social media, I always stand for looking at peculiarities of each nation and its circumstances before making any judgemental condemnation and /or commendation in comparative positions on nations and issues.

The 2020 USA election and the shenanigans of Donald Trump and his Trumpeters is now a testament that every nation, communities and even families have their peculiarities and making superficial comparison is an intellectually lazy way of engagement.

Thanks to Trump, even some of our condemnable flip flops including debasing ” area boyism” in politics and governance can be view with proper prism.

What one can do at best is to compare the good of system of Government and governance while analysing short comings as arising out of individuals peculiarities across nation and not some stereotyping that put some struggling nations down
