Traditional medicine practitioners to partner Edo government to fight human trafficking, irregular migration
The fight against Human Trafficking and irregular migration by Edo State government has received the support of the Traditional Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria
The traditional medicine practitioners commended the success recorded so far by the Godwin Obaseki administration and sued for sustenance.
The President of the group, Chief Prof. Omon Oleabhiele JP, disclosed this at stakeholders meeting on Tuesday in Benin City, where members of the association also expressed implicit confidence on the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Chief Oleabhiele who lamented the menace of irregular migration and human trafficking said there was need for stakeholders to cooperate with government to find lasting solution to the the menace.
“We’re determined to assist in the fight against human trafficking: by identifying victims and traffickers. Crimes such as this flourish when major stakeholders fold their arms,” Chief Oleabhiele posited.
The traditional medicine practitioners who discussed the theme, ‘Traditional Medicine and its practice for Wealth Creation, Strategies against Human Trafficking: The Role of the Traditional Medicine Practitioners’ said it was aimed at providing practical guidance on how practitioners in the sector can take proactive measures against modern-day slavery of Nigerian youths.
The group also commended the Oba of Benin for his roles so far to combat this ugly trade.
While addressing the practitioners, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Anti Human Trafficking Issues, Comrade Solomon Okoduwa, lauded them for their intent to join hands with government to fight the scourge of human trafficking.
According to Okoduwa, the state task force against human trafficking which is charged with the responsibility of intensive advocacy, rehabilitation of returnees and victims, open its doors for complaints and it subsequently investigates such matters accordingly to ensure proper prosecution of the case.
The SSA maintained that the desire of the Governor is to see that human trafficking and irregular migration is totally eradicated from Edo State. “The Governor is working tirelessly to bring investors to Edo State to create job opportunities, reduce youth restiveness and boost our economy, the governor’s aide assured.”
Those who were at the event include the National Secretary of the association, Dr. Philip Oryi-Oaikhena, Joseph Ehiorobo , state chairman among other stakeholders.
The 2018 African Day of Traditional Medicine Practitioners comes up on 31st August, 2018.
