Tinubu Weighs Automatic Senate Tickets for Loyal Lawmakers Ahead of 2027 — Kebbi Governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is considering backing automatic Senate tickets for select lawmakers in the 2027 elections, in what is being framed as a move to preserve stability within the National Assembly.

This was disclosed by Nasir Idris, who spoke to political stakeholders in Kebbi State, stating that the president is “favourably disposed” to rewarding senators who have contributed to steady leadership and cooperation with the executive arm.

According to Idris, the lawmakers under consideration include Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara West), Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North), and Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central).

Others mentioned are Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), Abdullahi Yahaya Abubakar (Kebbi North), Idiat Oluranti Adebule (Lagos West), Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central), and Adetokunbo Abiru (Lagos East).

Idris argued that the named senators have been “instrumental in providing steady leadership within the Senate, fostering cooperation with the executive, and ensuring the smooth passage of key policies and reforms.”

He added that their roles have “significantly helped in stabilising the Senate and strengthening governance under the current administration.”

However, there has been no official confirmation from the Presidency or the leadership of the All Progressives Congress.

The revelation has already sparked debate within political circles, particularly around concerns over internal party democracy and the fairness of automatic tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.
