Tinubu Urges Unity as Christians, Muslims Begin Lent and Ramadan Same Day

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm greetings to Christian and Muslim faithful as the sacred seasons of Lent and Ramadan commence simultaneously this year, describing the rare convergence as a reminder of the nation’s shared faith and unity under God.

In a goodwill message to mark the solemn observances, the President said the coincidence of Lent and Ramadan beginning on the same day underscores the common spiritual values binding Nigerians across religious lines.

Addressing Christians, Tinubu noted that Lent is a sacred period of fasting, abstinence, and penitence, reflecting the example of Jesus Christ in the wilderness before His crucifixion, which brought salvation to mankind. He described the season as one of deep reflection and renewed commitment to faith.

Speaking to Muslims, the President highlighted Ramadan as a holy month symbolising total submission to God, sacrifice, devotion, service, and communal love. He noted that beyond the obligatory fasting, Ramadan represents one of the five pillars of Islam and calls for spiritual renewal and strict adherence to Islamic teachings.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to use the twin observances to strengthen good neighbourliness, promote peace, unity, and national stability. He called on citizens to pray for the continued progress and security of the country.

“As a nation and as a people, let us live by the good precepts of our faiths and remain honourable in our duties to God and to one another,” the President stated.

He prayed that the lessons, blessings, and joy of the sacred seasons would abide with Nigerians and foster lasting harmony across the country.
