Tinubu to Aisha Buhari: I Will Uphold Buhari’s Legacy of Integrity and Patriotism

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured the family of late former President Muhammadu Buhari that his administration will remain steadfast in upholding the values of honesty, patriotism, and integrity for which Buhari was widely respected.
Tinubu gave this assurance on Friday, September 19, during a condolence visit to the Buhari family residence in Kaduna, where he met the former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, their eldest son Yusuf, and other relatives.
“We are here to share in your grief and to let you know that you are not alone,” Tinubu said.
“A loss in flesh is not a loss in spirit. The spirit that President Buhari left behind is one of honesty, hard work, patriotism, and dedication — and that is the spirit we are carrying forward. We will continue on the path of integrity and character that he lived for.”
The President prayed for national peace and unity, pledging that Buhari’s contributions to Nigeria would not be forgotten.
In her remarks, Aisha Buhari expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima’s wife, and other government officials for standing by her family during their period of mourning. She emphasized that her late husband lived by principles of honesty, integrity, tolerance, accountability, and justice, urging Nigerians to emulate these virtues.
“I pray for Nigeria’s peace and unity, and for you, President Tinubu, to continue building on my late husband’s legacy,” she said.
Tinubu was accompanied on the visit by top government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Governors Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Babagana Zulum (Borno), and Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto). Also in his entourage were Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Minister of Budget and Planning Atiku Bagudu, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
Earlier in the day, President Tinubu attended the wedding of Nasirudeen, son of Senator Abdulaziz Yari, and Safiyya Shehu Idris at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna. Acting as the representative of the groom’s family, Tinubu formally received the bride’s hand in marriage after the dowry of ₦1 million was confirmed.
The ceremony, officiated by Chief Imam Dr. Muhammad Suleiman and attended by clerics including Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, drew dignitaries, traditional rulers, politicians, and business leaders from across the country. In his goodwill message, Tinubu urged the young couple to build their marriage on love, faith, and mutual respect.
