Tinubu submits N34trn revenue projection to Senate in 2026–2028 fiscal blueprint
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has presented the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) to the Senate, outlining the federal government’s fiscal direction for the next three years.
The documents, which contain revenue, expenditure, and economic projections, indicate that Nigeria expects to generate N34.33 trillion in 2026.
The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, read the President’s correspondence during Thursday’s plenary session.
In the letter, Tinubu said the submission of the MTEF/FSP aligns with the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which mandates the executive to provide a medium-term economic plan for legislative approval.
According to the projections, the N34.33 trillion estimated revenue for 2026 represents the administration’s confidence in ongoing reforms aimed at boosting non-oil income, strengthening tax efficiency, and improving fiscal discipline across federal ministries, departments, and agencies.
Tinubu urged the Senate to give the documents “urgent and favourable consideration,” stressing that timely approval is essential to guide the preparation of the 2026 national budget.
The Senate is expected to refer the MTEF/FSP to its Committee on Finance for further legislative scrutiny before final approval.
With the new revenue outlook, the federal government hopes to stabilize economic growth, enhance public spending efficiency, and strengthen the country’s medium-term fiscal resilience.
