Tinubu seeks NASS approval for 2026–2028 MTEF, FSP

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the National Assembly’s approval of the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), key documents that will guide the federal government’s fiscal policy and expenditure priorities over the next three years.

The request was conveyed in a letter read by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin during Thursday’s plenary session. In the letter, President Tinubu said he was transmitting the documents “for the kind consideration and approval of the distinguished senators.”

The MTEF and FSP outline the federal government’s macroeconomic projections, revenue and expenditure targets, and fiscal strategies for the medium term.

Their approval by the National Assembly is required before work can commence on the 2026 national budget.

The Senate is expected to refer the documents to its Committee on Finance for further legislative scrutiny before presenting a report for adoption.
