Tinubu Seeks Forgiveness, Urges Unity at Ramadan Tafsir in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday called on Nigerians to embrace forgiveness, unity, and national peace as he opened the 2026 Ramadan Tafsir at the State House Mosque in Abuja.
Highlighting the coincidence of Ramadan with the Christian Lenten season, Tinubu described it as a special moment for Nigerians to reflect, reconcile, and work together for the country’s stability.

The call was contained in a statement issued by Special Adviser, Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
“Fellow Muslims, this Ramadan coincides with the start of Lent for our Christian brothers and sisters. We thank God for this sign, reminding us of the importance of unity, collaboration, peace, and stability in our nation,” he said.
The President emphasized the spiritual essence of Ramadan, urging Nigerians to draw closer to God, perform acts of goodness, forgive one another, and share love and faith. He also sought understanding and forgiveness from citizens in the spirit of the season, following the teachings of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon Him).
“For us as Muslims, this is a call to continue acting in goodwill and commitment to nation-building, not only during the fasting period but beyond,” Tinubu said. He further prayed for those in need, for the country, and for divine guidance to overcome terrorism and banditry.
The Tafsir also featured prayers from the Chief Imam of the State House Mosque, Sheikh Abdulwaheed Abubakar Suleiman, who prayed for the President’s health and strength in his efforts to improve the welfare of Nigerians.
The event was attended by notable government officials, including the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari; Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake; Minister of Labour and Employment, Maigari Dingyadi; and Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Sen. Basheer Lado.
The 2026 Ramadan Tafsir underscored the President’s call for moral rejuvenation, peaceful coexistence, and collective prayers for Nigeria’s progress.
