Tinubu Returns to Lagos After UK Visit, Joins Muslims for Eid Celebrations

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Lagos in the early hours of Friday, March 20, 2026, following a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom.

The President is scheduled to participate in Eid-el-Fitr celebrations later in the day alongside Muslim faithful. He and the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 1:15 a.m.

They were received on arrival by Lagos State Deputy Governor Femi Hamzat, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, alongside party stakeholders.

As part of his Sallah activities, President Tinubu will observe prayers at the Eid Ground in Dodan Barracks on Friday morning.

In his Eid message, the President urged Muslims across Nigeria to uphold the values of Ramadan, emphasizing piety, compassion, unity, and perseverance beyond the fasting period.

Reflecting on his UK trip, Tinubu described the visit as historic and impactful in deepening relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom—the first of its kind by a Nigerian leader in 37 years.

During the visit, he held talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Downing Street, where both countries agreed on a £746 million deal to rehabilitate two major Lagos ports.

He noted that discussions also covered trade, economic cooperation, climate change, counterterrorism, and other global concerns.

At a state banquet hosted by Charles III at Windsor Castle, the President highlighted the enduring ties between both nations, stressing their shared commitment to progress, resilience, and mutual respect.

Earlier, King Charles III and Camilla formally received President Tinubu and the First Lady, with the Nigerian leader inspecting a guard of honour and witnessing a ceremonial 42-gun salute.
