Tinubu pledges to defeat terrorism, strengthen global alliances
President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s unwavering resolve to eradicate terrorism in Nigeria while deepening diplomatic relations with international partners.
“We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure everyone that we will defeat terrorism. Our mission is to advance with clarity of purpose under the Renewed Hope Agenda to build a prosperous Nigeria,” the President stated before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) began a closed-door session on Thursday.
The FEC meeting, which took place at the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, marked the council’s first since July.
Tinubu’s remarks followed the recent decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to classify Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” — a designation the Federal Government has dismissed as an inaccurate reflection of the country’s security realities.
Addressing the issue publicly for the first time, the President said his administration continues to engage with the global community to promote security, stability, and economic development.
“Despite political challenges and uncertainties, we will maintain active engagement with our partners. The success of the $2.3 billion Eurobond, which was oversubscribed, demonstrates strong investor confidence in our economy,” he noted.
Acknowledging the magnitude of the task ahead, Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to steering the nation forward with unity and determination.
He also expressed confidence in the dedication of his cabinet members, commending them for their loyalty to the Renewed Hope Agenda and urging continued cooperation and focus in driving government reforms.
