Tinubu Pledges Nigeria’s Solidarity with Gulf States Amid US/Israel–Iran Tensions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with Gulf nations affected by the escalating tensions surrounding the US/Israel conflict with Iran, emphasizing the country’s commitment to global peace and stability.

Speaking at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, the President expressed support for countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, which he said had come under attack during the crisis.

He commended their restraint and resilience, noting that “the world needs tranquillity, peace and love.”

Tinubu made the remarks while receiving Letters of Credence from newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners representing nine countries. Among them were envoys from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Sudan, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, Argentina, and Congo.

Reiterating Nigeria’s foreign policy stance, the President assured the diplomats that the country would continue to collaborate with international partners to promote peace both within Africa and globally. He also highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to regional stability through the Economic Community of West African States, particularly in addressing security challenges and fostering economic integration across West Africa.

Tinubu described the moment as a “significant milestone” in strengthening diplomatic relations and urged the envoys to deepen cooperation for mutual prosperity. He also pointed to ongoing economic reforms aimed at positioning Nigeria as a competitive hub for investment, innovation, and sustainable growth.

Addressing broader global challenges—including climate change, shifting geopolitical dynamics, and counter-terrorism—the President called for stronger international cooperation to build a fairer and more secure world order.

On behalf of the diplomatic corps, Qatar’s ambassador expressed appreciation for the warm reception and pledged to enhance bilateral relations between Nigeria and their respective countries.

The President concluded by encouraging the envoys to explore Nigeria beyond the capital, highlighting the nation’s cultural diversity, entrepreneurial spirit, and hospitality.
