Tinubu Monitored Oriire Rescue Daily, Pressed Troops for Updates – GOC

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Chinedu Nnebeufe, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu closely monitored the rescue operation for the abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, demanding daily updates from troops on the ground.

Speaking after the successful rescue of the victims, Major General Nnebeufe said the President’s unwavering interest in the operation placed significant responsibility on the military leadership to ensure a successful outcome.

According to him, President Tinubu consistently directed that the ground troops be contacted every day to provide firsthand updates on the progress of the mission.

“President Tinubu was always telling someone to call the ground troops on a daily basis to give him an update on the rescue operation of the abducted Oriire schoolchildren and teachers. You can imagine the kind of pressure I was getting from the Chief of Army Staff,” Nnebeufe said.

The GOC expressed appreciation to the President for his steadfast support and confidence in the armed forces throughout the operation, noting that the military remained committed to securing the safe return of the victims despite the challenges encountered.

The abducted pupils and teachers regained their freedom after spending several weeks in captivity, bringing relief to their families and residents of Oyo State. The rescue operation has been widely commended as a major success for the Nigerian military and other security agencies involved.
