Tinubu Hails Osoba as “Brother in Purpose”

….Pays Glowing Birthday Tribute

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid a heartfelt birthday tribute to elder statesman and former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, describing him as a “brother in purpose” whose lifelong commitment to service, integrity and democratic ideals has inspired generations.

In a personally signed birthday message from Aso Rock, Abuja, Tinubu reflected on his decades-long relationship with Osoba, saying their friendship was built on a shared belief that Nigeria could be governed with competence, respect for institutions and a commitment to improving the lives of citizens.

The President said although they entered public life through different paths, they were united by common ideals, recalling years of political campaigns, strategy meetings and advocacy for truth and good governance.

Tinubu praised Osoba’s contributions as both a distinguished journalist and politician, noting that the former governor consistently championed responsible journalism and people-centred leadership.

He recalled Osoba’s habit of mentoring young reporters and reminding political associates to focus on the ordinary Nigerians affected by government policies.

The President also commended Osoba’s calm disposition and wealth of historical knowledge, saying his reflections on the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and the old Western Region often provided perspective during difficult moments in public service.

Describing Osoba as a man of unwavering character, Tinubu said the elder statesman remained the same in both public and private life, always placing courtesy, family values and principled leadership above personal interests.

“As a brother in purpose, thank you for the counsel, your laughter, and for the reminder that leadership without character is worthless,” the President said.

Tinubu prayed for Osoba’s continued good health and long life, expressing hope that the ideals they had worked for together—including quality education, durable infrastructure and accountable governance—would continue to take root across the country.

He concluded the tribute by wishing the former Ogun State governor peace and many more years of service to the nation.
