Tinubu greenlights recruitment of 30,000 police officers to bolster national security

In a strategic effort to tackle Nigeria’s growing security concerns, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 30,000 new police officers into the Nigeria Police Force.
The announcement, made via a statement from the Presidency on Friday, underscores the administration’s commitment to reinforcing internal security and advancing community-based policing. The large-scale recruitment is aimed at addressing critical manpower shortages, improving the force’s responsiveness, and rebuilding public trust in law enforcement.
Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, welcomed the approval, describing it as a timely intervention that will significantly strengthen the police force. He assured the public that the process will be fair, transparent, and guided by the principles of federal character and merit.
President Tinubu also directed that new recruits undergo intensive training and capacity development to prepare them for the demands of modern policing. The training will focus on equipping personnel with contemporary law enforcement techniques, ethical standards, and community engagement skills.
The recruitment will be carried out in phases, beginning later this year, with priority given to deploying officers to vulnerable and underserved areas across the country.
