Tinubu Extends Working Vacation

…. Returns Nigeria At Weekend

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his working vacation by a few days and is expected to return to Nigeria at the weekend, the Presidency has announced.

Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 for London, United Kingdom, to begin his working vacation before subsequently travelling to Paris, France.

While in Paris, the President held meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré, whose business interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.

Despite being away from Nigeria, Tinubu has continued to monitor developments at home and direct the affairs of government.

The Presidency said the President, among other directives, ordered an independent panel to investigate the deaths of 37 illegal miners in Minna following their detention by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

During his absence, Tinubu delegated Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him at some official engagements. Shettima, however, departed Abuja on September 20 for New York to represent the President at the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who has also been representing the President at official functions, will continue in that capacity.

On the political front, the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abubakar Yari, has continued consultations with prominent traditional rulers alongside other senior party leaders.

The Presidency also criticised what it described as “baseless insinuation” by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a United States-based lobbying firm headed by an ex-convict over Tinubu’s absence from the UN General Assembly.

According to the Presidency, Shettima will present Nigeria’s national statement at the global gathering on behalf of President Tinubu.
