Tinubu Extends 2025 Budget Implementation to December 31, 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, extending the implementation period of the 2025 Appropriation Act from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

The extension followed the swift passage of the amendment by both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extension will provide Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) with additional time to complete ongoing capital projects.

The Presidency said the move would also ensure that funds already appropriated are fully utilised for the benefit of Nigerians without disrupting critical government programmes.

Tinubu commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration and passage of the amendment.

The President described the development as another demonstration of cooperation between the Executive and Legislature in the interest of the nation.

Onanuga said the President’s assent formally gives effect to the extension of the 2025 budget implementation period to December 31, 2026.
