Tinubu: Electoral Act Amendments About Process, Not Politics

President Bola Tinubu has said the newly signed amendments to the Electoral Act 2022 are designed to strengthen electoral processes rather than advance partisan interests.

Speaking after assenting to the final amendments to the 2022 Electoral Act, the President emphasized that the changes are focused on improving procedures, closing existing gaps, and enhancing clarity for election administrators and participants.

According to him, every election cycle presents an opportunity for reflection and reform, noting that serious democracies evolve their laws based on experience.

He said Nigeria must continue to refine its legal framework to ensure that elections are conducted more transparently and efficiently.

“These amendments are not about politics. They are about process,” the President stated, stressing that voter confidence depends on credible procedures and trustworthy outcomes.

He added that when citizens cast their ballots, they must do so with full assurance that results will reflect their will.

Tinubu commended the National Assembly for what he described as its cooperation and sense of national responsibility in concluding the legislative process.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that the people’s mandate is expressed clearly, peacefully, and credibly.

The signing of the amendments marks another step in ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria’s electoral system and consolidate democratic governance.
