Tinubu directs cabinet members to travel Katsina for late Buhari’s funeral rites
….as third day pray holds Wednesday
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed 25 members of the Federal Executive Council to travel to Katsina for the funeral rites and remain in Daura for the Fidau (Third-Day) prayers scheduled for Wednesday.
Idris also revealed that President Tinubu has established an Inter-Ministerial Committee, headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to oversee what he described as a “dignified and well-coordinated programme.”
The committee will work closely with the Katsina State Government and the family of the late former President.
As part of the national mourning protocol, President Tinubu has ordered condolence registers to be opened in all Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, as well as in Nigerian embassies and missions worldwide.
An additional register will be available at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The Minister further noted that global leaders have continued to send messages of sympathy.
“The outpouring of condolences from Heads of State and Governments around the world underscores the international stature and enduring legacy of President Muhammadu Buhari,” Idris stated.
Earlier, the late President’s remains departed London and arrived in Nigeria aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft.
The body landed at Umar Musa Yar’adua Airport in Katsina State on Tuesday and was received by a delegation led by President Tinubu, alongside governors, ministers, National Assembly members, and other dignitaries.
A brief military ceremony was held at the airport before the body was transported to Daura, Buhari’s hometown, for the funeral rites.
The Jana’iza (Islamic funeral prayer) is being held prior to the final interment at his residence.
