Tinubu Commissions Ogun Airport, Says Investments Target Citizens’ Prosperity

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said his administration’s infrastructure drive and economic reforms are focused on improving the well-being and long-term prosperity of Nigerians.

The President made this known on Saturday during the inauguration of the Gateway Cargo International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, a project executed by Governor Dapo Abiodun. He also launched two aircraft for the state-owned Gateway Airline.

Speaking at the event, Tinubu emphasized that the government’s investments are people-centered and aimed at laying a solid foundation for future growth. He noted that the newly commissioned airport is powered independently, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen energy infrastructure.

The President commended Governor Abiodun for his developmental strides, highlighting improvements in mobility, security, and agriculture. As part of the event, Tinubu also launched 1,000 electric bikes, security vehicles, and tractors, describing the adoption of electric mobility as a forward-looking response to modern transportation challenges.

Tinubu further praised Nigerians for their continued support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that ongoing reforms have increased financial resources available to states. He expressed satisfaction with how governors are utilizing these funds for development.

The President also lauded the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for reforms that have improved ease of doing business and staff welfare. During the visit, Tinubu commissioned a Customs Hub comprising barracks, a training college, a warehouse, and a hospital.

In his remarks, Governor Abiodun described the President’s visit as historic, attributing Nigeria’s improving economic outlook to the Renewed Hope Agenda. He cited key reforms such as the unification of the foreign exchange rate, fuel subsidy removal, and fiscal restructuring as critical steps toward restoring investor confidence and driving sustainable growth.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended Tinubu’s democratic credentials and reiterated the National Assembly’s role in strengthening democracy. He also called for the decentralisation of the Transmission Company of Nigeria to improve power supply nationwide.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo praised Tinubu’s leadership and reflected on Ogun State’s development since its creation 50 years ago, noting significant progress over time.

Several top government officials, including Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, Minister of Communications Bosun Tijani, and Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso, attended the event alongside governors from multiple states and traditional rulers.
