Tinubu Celebrates Tunji Bello at 65

….Hails His Commitment to Progressive Ideals

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Tunji Bello, on his 65th birthday, describing him as a dependable friend, brother and long-standing ally in Nigeria’s progressive movement.

In a goodwill message released on the occasion of Bello’s birthday, the President praised his decades-long commitment to democracy, good governance and public service, noting that they had worked together in the progressive struggle for more than three decades.

Tinubu said Bello distinguished himself during Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement in the era of military rule, describing him as a fearless journalist who stood firmly for democratic ideals before transitioning into public service with remarkable success.

The President recalled appointing Bello into the Lagos State Executive Council in 2003 to tackle the state’s waste management challenges, despite his successful career in journalism.

According to Tinubu, Bello transformed the sector within a short period, earning the confidence of successive Lagos governors who retained him as Commissioner for the Environment and later as Secretary to the State Government.

He described Bello as one of the most accomplished public servants of his generation, citing his expertise in political science, law, administration and strategic communication.

Tinubu also commended Bello’s performance at the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, saying his appointment aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s objective of strengthening consumer protection and promoting fairness in the marketplace.

The President said Bello had made significant contributions within two years of leading the commission, adding that many Nigerians could attest to the impact of his leadership.

Expressing appreciation for Bello’s service to the nation and the progressive movement, Tinubu prayed for God’s continued blessings, good health and renewed strength for him to keep serving Nigeria.
