Tinubu Celebrates Alake at 70, Hails His Loyalty, Excellence and Service to Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, on his 70th birthday, describing him as a forthright, loyal and committed ally with an unwavering dedication to public service.

In a tribute he personally signed, Tinubu said his several decades of close relationship with Alake had shown him to be a “steady hand” whose position on issues was always clear and unequivocal.

The President congratulated Alake, who clocks 70 on October 6, as he joins the league of septuagenarians, and extended his goodwill to his family, friends and associates.

Tinubu praised the minister’s record of hard work, excellence and commitment to delivering results, noting that the pursuit of equity and social justice had remained central to his endeavours.

He particularly commended Alake’s contributions to journalism, where he spent most of his professional career, describing him as a frontline journalist and editor who courageously used his pen to challenge the ills confronting Nigeria.

According to the President, Alake distinguished himself during the military era as a journalist of conscience who stood against dictatorship and human rights abuses while advocating the restoration of democratic governance.

Tinubu also recalled Alake’s eight-year tenure as his Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State, saying he “redefined government information management” and became a notable example of political strategy and public communication.

The President further highlighted Alake’s performance as Minister of Solid Minerals Development, saying his ability to deliver results in unfamiliar and challenging environments had earned him local and international recognition.

He also noted Alake’s role as Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG), describing it as evidence of the confidence and trust he has earned among his colleagues across the continent.

Tinubu prayed for the Almighty to grant the minister many more years in good health as he continues his service to God, Nigeria and humanity.

“Happy birthday and many happy returns to my confidante, brother, and buddy,” the President said.
