Tinubu approves establishment of Forest Guards of Nigeria

…. Directs NSA to commence immediate Recruitment of Personnel

President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the launch of a new forest guard initiative to secure 1,129 forests across the country, aiming to root out terrorists and criminal elements hiding within them.

The President has instructed the National Security Adviser (NSA) to lead the full rollout of this initiative, beginning with the recruitment of forest guard personnel.

The development was announced on Wednesday by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications, via his official X account.

According to Dare, the forest guards will be professionally trained, armed, and equipped to carry out their mission of clearing Nigeria’s forests of terrorists, bandits, and other illegal operators.

The recruitment drive is part of a joint security effort between federal and state governments.

Oversight and implementation responsibilities have been assigned to the Office of the NSA and the Ministry of Environment, ensuring that the initiative is effectively executed.

Thousands of young Nigerians are expected to be enlisted into this newly formed security outfit, providing both employment opportunities and reinforcing national security.

Earlier, President Tinubu had issued a stern warning to criminal groups, asserting that his administration would not cede “an inch” of Nigerian territory to terrorists or bandits. He reaffirmed his commitment to reclaiming and securing all forested regions of the country.
