Three PDP Reps from Kaduna dump party for APC
Cite Leadership Crisis and Tinubu’s Agenda
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has suffered a significant blow in the House of Representatives as three of its lawmakers defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors—Abdulkarim Ahmed (Kaduna South), Aliyu Mustapha (Ikara/Kubau), and Sadiq Ango-Abdullahi (Sabongari)—formally announced their exit from the opposition party through individual letters read on the floor of the House by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during Tuesday’s plenary session.
Citing deepening internal crises within the PDP and a desire to align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the lawmakers said their decision was necessary for continued effective representation of their constituencies.
In his resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman in Makera Ward, Kaduna South LGA, Abdulkarim Ahmed stated that unresolved divisions and prolonged instability in the PDP had undermined his ability to perform his legislative duties effectively.
“The persistent internal wrangling and factionalism within the PDP have created an environment that no longer supports effective representation,” Ahmed wrote. “Following extensive consultations with my constituents, stakeholders, and political associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to resign from the party.”
He emphasized that the move was guided by a broader commitment to deliver results to the people of Kaduna South Federal Constituency, regardless of political affiliation.
Ahmed also expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform it provided, acknowledging the trust and experiences gained during his time with the party.
“I remain grateful to the PDP leadership and members at all levels for the opportunity to serve. However, I must now prioritize the interests of my constituents above party politics,” he concluded.
The defections underscore the ongoing challenges within the PDP as it continues to grapple with internal strife and a growing number of high-profile exits.
