NCC addresses quality of service challenges in Abuja
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC has acknowledged the recent Quality of Service (QoS) challenges affecting telecommunications subscribers in Abuja, attributing the disruptions to issues related to diesel supply for critical telecom infrastructure.
The Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, Head, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission, stated this in a statement.
According to the Commission, the service degradation has impacted the quality of experience of subscribers, particularly those on the Airtel and MTN networks. The challenges stem largely from disruptions in diesel supply to base stations operated by IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation provider responsible for powering these facilities in the affected areas.
The NCC explained that the disruption was caused by the activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which led to a halt in diesel supplies to telecom sites, resulting in widespread service outages across parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
In response, the Commission said it is actively collaborating with major stakeholders and licensees to address the situation and restore normal services. It emphasized the critical role of reliable power supply in ensuring optimal telecommunications services and reaffirmed its commitment to seamless communication for all Nigerians.
“The NCC is engaging relevant stakeholders to address the diesel supply challenges and explore sustainable solutions,” the Commission stated, urging all parties involved to work collaboratively to swiftly remove the bottlenecks affecting critical telecommunications infrastructure.
The Commission further noted that it is facilitating dialogue between affected service providers and other stakeholders to resolve the diesel supply concerns that have negatively impacted service quality. These efforts, it said, are part of broader steps to foster a conducive environment for the growth and sustainability of the telecommunications sector in Nigeria.
The NCC assured subscribers that it is closely managing the situation and will continue to provide updates on progress toward restoring full telecommunications services in Abuja. It also appealed to subscribers for patience and understanding during the period of disruption, while reaffirming its commitment to delivering high-quality telecommunications services nationwide.
