The Removal of Wall of Jericho In Akure: Welcome Development, My Fear
By Sunday Adewale Menukuro
There is no doubt that the removal of the solid walls, otherwise called ‘Odi Jericho’ erected at middle of the major road on Oba Adesida road, between the post office and Texaco filling station, is a welcome development. This is obvious as majority of the people around the ‘Oja Oba’ market trooped out to thank and sing praise the Acting Governor of Ondo state, His Excellency, Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa. They were dancing and singing the praises of the Acting Governor, for such relieving development.
It is no more news that buying and selling went drastically down since the erection of the walls.
It was also said to have encouraged criminalities as the people of the other side of the division, could not render any helping hand to the victims of crime each time such dastardly act happened.
In a nutshell, the erection of the walls brought a lot of harm than the good it was meant to bring about. The erection was a failure in its entirety. Even the hold ups the walls were meant to prevent was never be in the true sense of it.
So, it is a good thing that the Acting Governor, made it important to remove the walls to the exhilaration of the people especially the market men and women and the passersby. Ayedatiwa truly deserved all the kudos poured on him.
However, this action of Mr Lucky Ayedatiwa may be seen as a suicide mission in the event that the governor comes back from his medical holiday soon. This very popular action of his alone, is enough for the governor to remove him the way my people used to remove jigga from the legs in those days.
The governor would see the Acting Governor as being daring audacious, to have had the gut to undo what he did to the damnation of the people of the state who advised and protested against it ab initio.
In fact, the other recent controversial issues would be insignificant to this very one of ‘Odi Jericho’ which the governor holds dearly, should the governor comes back soon.
In any case, I join the well meaning Nigerians to pray for the speedy recovery of his Excellency, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, while I advise him to jettison any act of vindictiveness and revenge, when God gives him the grace to return to the office.
N.B: It is important to know that I am only thinking loud on all these. You are only privileged to hear my thinking which was audible enough.
