Supreme Court Justice, Ngwuta pleads not guilty to false assets declaration at CCT
A Supreme Court Justice, Sylvester Ngwuta has pleaded not guilty to the eight count of false declaration of assets, preferred against him by the Federal Government.
Justice Ngwuta entered the not guilty plea, following his arraignment at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, in Abuja, on Thursday.
According to the charges, the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, had claimed that the Supreme Court Justice contravened section 15 of the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, and Tribunal Act, laws of the federation of Nigeria, which is punishable under section 23 (2) of the Act.
Ngwuta was specifically alleged have failed to declare 28 plots of land to the CCB between June 2, 2011 and July 19, 2016.
Malami further alleged that Justice Ngwuta, also engaged in the purchase and sale of rice, palm oil and other related products, while being a justice of the Supreme Court, within the same period.
The Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Umar Muhammed, said in addition to the plots of lands and acts of buying and selling, the Justice of Nigeria’s apex court also own five cars which he allegedly kept away from the CCB.
Justice Ngwuta is one of the judges whose residence was raided in October 2016 by the Department of Security Service, DSS, in which huge sums of money in various denominations were allegedly uncovered.
