Stop sporadic shooting of gun, CP appeals to vigilante, local security men

Ogun State Police Command, Commissioner of Police, (CP) Kenneth Ebrimson has appealed to all vigilante and local security men to desist from sporadic shooting of gun into the air especially at night.
He noted that this has been subjecting members of the public to various degrees of mental and psychological trauma due to the fact that they were misconstruing it to be armed robbery attack within their neighborhoods.
The police boss stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta on Friday by the command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi.
The statement read: “Ogun State police command has noticed with concern the activities of some vigilante and local security men who have formed the habit of firing gun shot in the air intermittently at night in the name of scaring hoodlums away from their area, thereby causing panic and apprehension in the mind of members of the public.
“In as much as the command will appreciate any collaborative efforts to keep criminals at bay in the state, such effort should devoid of any act capable of doing more damage than the intended good.
“In view of this, the Commissioner of police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson hereby appeal to all vigilante and local security men to desist from sporadic shooting of gun into the air as this has been subjecting members of the public to various degrees of mental and psychological trauma due to the fact that they were misconstruing it to be armed robbery attack within their neighborhoods.
“The Command also wishes to appeal to the good people of Gateway State not to be unnecessarily apprehensive as the police are doing everything possible to protect them.”
