Stealing: Sharia ccourt sentenced man to 50 stroke of cane

A Sharia Court in Kano has sentenced a 35-year-old man, Sabiu Abdullahi, to 50 strokes of the cane for stealing five roofing sheets.

Abdullahi, who resides in Mariri Quarters, was arraigned on charges of trespassing and theft, in violation of Sections 134 and 287 of the Kano State Penal Code Law. He pleaded guilty to the charges.

The prosecution counsel, Zahradeen Abubakar, informed the court that the case was reported by one Anas Yakubu of Tamburawa Quarters at the Mariri Police Station on July 21. He stated that Abdullahi unlawfully entered Yakubu’s home while he was away and stole the roofing materials.

Presiding over the matter, Judge Malam Umar Lawal delivered the sentence of 50 lashes.
