Soldiers arrest 65-year-old woman over alleged drug supply to terrorists in North-East
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a 65-year-old woman, Hauwa Abulazeez, over alleged involvement in supplying illicit drugs to Boko Haram fighters operating in Nigeria’s North-East.
The arrest was confirmed on Sunday in a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt-Col Sanni Uba. According to him, the suspect was apprehended on January 23, 2026, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, following credible intelligence.
Lt-Col Uba said Abulazeez is suspected to be a key supplier and distributor of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram elements operating across several communities, including Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu and Gaya. She is also believed to play a significant role in transporting the substance across different locations within the theatre of operations.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were allegedly sourced from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State and conveyed through established supply routes for onward distribution to insurgent groups.
During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa weighing about 30 kilogrammes. The military described the seizure as a major interception aimed at cutting off logistics and resources used to sustain criminal and terrorist activities in the region.
The suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing further investigation, while follow-up operations are ongoing to identify, track and dismantle the wider trafficking network linked to the alleged supply chain.
