Shettima arrives Kebbi, meets officials and families of abducted schoolgirls

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Kebbi State to engage with state authorities and the families of the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.

His aircraft touched down at Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi, where he was received by top officials. Accompanying the Vice President were the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, along with other senior government representatives.

Acting on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, Shettima travelled from Abuja to deliver the President’s message of solidarity and to obtain an updated briefing on the security situation for onward transmission to the Presidency.

The tragic attack on the school resulted in the death of the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, who was reportedly killed while attempting to stop the bandits from abducting the students.

Security efforts have since intensified, with police announcing on Monday that a combined tactical team has been deployed to comb nearby forests in search of the missing girls.

President Tinubu has strongly condemned the attack and extended his condolences to the families affected. In light of the situation, he has also postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg for the G20 Summit and Luanda for the AU-EU Summit.
