Senate President, Godswill Akpabio pays glowing tribute to late Muhammadu Buhari at FEC

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has paid glowing tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a man of principle who served Nigeria with unwavering dedication.
Speaking at a special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session convened by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, Akpabio praised Buhari’s lifelong commitment to national service.
“He gave everything to a country that demanded so much of him,” Akpabio said. “President Muhammadu Buhari was not without flaws—no leader is—but he was deeply principled and steadfast in his beliefs.”
The solemn gathering brought together senior government officials, cabinet ministers, and lawmakers to honour Buhari’s legacy—spanning his tenure as a military Head of State and later as a democratically elected President.
President Tinubu, who initiated the special session, described Buhari’s passing as a profound national loss. He extended heartfelt condolences to the former president’s family, close associates, and supporters across the nation.
Buhari, who served from 2015 to 2023, died on Sunday, July 13, in London following a long but undisclosed illness. His funeral took place on Tuesday in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.
The tribute session began around 5:27 p.m. when President Tinubu entered the Council Chambers, where most cabinet members were already present. Following the national anthem, Tinubu offered a deeply personal and reflective eulogy.
He praised Buhari’s quiet patriotism and moral strength, noting that his leadership was defined more by deeds than by rhetoric.
“President Buhari was humble and sincere in his interactions—never theatrical, never pretentious,” Tinubu said. “He treated his colleagues with respect and those who served under him with kindness. Even in death, he retained the calm dignity that marked his life.”
He continued: “His patriotism wasn’t about loud declarations. It was demonstrated through consistent action. Power never swayed him. In moments of crisis, he remained unshaken. He was, in every sense, a good man—honourable and decent.”
The chamber remained in thoughtful silence as those present reflected on the late leader’s life of service, integrity, and discipline.
