The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to move against some serving senator at the National Assembly, Daily Times reports.

The commission’s decision to make these arrests follows allegations that some senators are planning to move a motion asking their colleagues accused of various crimes not to honour invitations by EFCC until its chairman Ibrahim Magu is removed.

According to sources, Senate is also making plans to reconcile with the anti-graft agencies over various allegations against some senators who are former governors.

It was gathered that the anti-graft agencies have continued to receive more petitions against these serving senators.

A source within the Senate said some of the affected Senators include the former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio; former Plateau state governors, Joshua Dariye and Jonah Jang, former Ebonyi state governor Sam Egwu, former Abia state governor Theodore Orji and the Senate President Bukola Saraki.

The source also said the Senate plans to pass a resolution to mandate Nigeria who are currently been investigated to evade invitations by the commission until Magu is removed.

“Of course, the lawmakers are not happy about Magu. In fact, some of them are angry that despite his rejection twice, President Muhammadu Buhari- led Federal Government is still keeping Magu in office,” the source who pleaded anonymity said.

“I can also authoritatively tells you that Magu’s leadership of the EFCC is not acceptable and the lawmakers are going to take drastic decision when they resume from the recess,’ the source said.

“Well one of the options is to pass a resolution, asking invited persons on corruption allegations not to honour the invitation until Magu is removed.

The source also said the Senate is ready to assert its powers for the worst as the move is in line with planned intimidation of the EFCC’s chairman.

This, the source said will stop him from inviting some of the lawmakers involved in various fraudulent activities.
