Reps move to appease Shiite over El-Zak Zaky’s continued detention

The House of Representatives has rqesolved to as a matter of urgency engage the Shitte Islamic sect with the aim of addressing their grievances
The resolution is coming against the backdrop of the the invasion of the National Assembly by hundreds of aggrieved members of the sect protesting against the detention of their leader, Sheik El Zak Zaky against court orders.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent national importance sponsored by the House Minority Leader, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu at the plenary presided over by the Speaker of The House ,Mr Femi Gbajabiamila.
The House also resolved to find ways of compensating the officers who were affected and hospitalised yesterday as a result of this occurrence.
The House house further resolved to ascertain if the officers of the Nigeria Police Force are insured under group, personal accident scheme and workmen compensation. And if not , direct committee on police efforts when constituted to incorporate it in their national budget and ensure implementation of same.
The House also resolved that the internal security of the assembly be thoroughly assessed thoroughly and adequate measures be employed to mitigate against Futher occurrence.
Elumelu while moving the motion expressed concern over the unfortunate incidence adding that there is an urgent need to proffer solution to the porous nature of security in the National Assembly complex .
Lawmakers who contributed to the debate called for the release of El _Zak Zaky to forestall a situation whereby the Shitte sect will pose grievous security threat to the dreaded Boko Haram.
