Rep Ottah Agbo Condemns Calls for Interim Govt
… Says it will Plunge the Country Into Needless Crisis
…Urges DSS to Bring Those Behind Plan to Book
Spokesman of the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives, Dr. Francis Ottah Agbo, has condemned calls for an interim government in Nigeria.
Dr. Ottah Agbo who represents Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu Federal Constituency in a press statement by his Media Adviser, Mr Andrew Agbese, said having an interim government in place will be tantamount to truncating democracy as it has no place in constitutional democracy.
The statement reads:
“The call in some quarters for an interim government in Nigeria is condemnable as it has no place in constitutional democracy.
“Democracy may not be the best form of government, yet there is definitely no better alternative to democracy and this underscores why all hands must be on deck to safeguard our fledgling democracy which we fought in some cases with our blood to evolve and sustain instead of calling for its truncation through the call for interim government contraption”
“I appreciate the concerns of those aggrieved and have lost hope in the judiciary and particularly the Supreme Court which has constituted a threat to democracy. I know aggrieved candidates in the 2023 general elections don’t trust the judiciary to deliver justice but I still enjoin those not satisfied with the outcome of the last general elections to seek redress through legal means. They should not throw the country into chaos and anarchy.
“Given that we have nurtured our democracy to this level, we should do all we can to safeguard it rather than call for a system that is not known to our laws.
“Nigerians will recall that the Interim Government experimentation in 1993 ushered in the Sani Abacha interregnum, which took the nation backward.
“The Department of State Security Service should do a thorough investigation to burst the plan and bring those behind it to book.”
