Reno Omokri Launches ₦20 Million Challenge Over Power Project Claims

Nigerian socio-political commentator and former presidential aide, @renoomokri, has launched a public challenge with a ₦20 million reward attached, questioning the infrastructural legacy of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.
In a post that has since gained widespread attention online, Omokri praised the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his successor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, during their tenures as governors of Lagos State. He highlighted several Independent Power Projects (IPPs) initiated and completed under their leadership, including:
Alausa Independent Power Plant (10.4MW)
Akute Independent Power Plant (12.55MW)
Lagos Island I & II IPPs (10MW)
Mainland Independent Power Plant (8.8MW)
Lekki Peninsula Integrated Power Project (6MW)
Island IPP, Marina (10MW)
Omokri challenged Nigerians to name even one IPP that was “initiated, started, completed, and commissioned” by Peter Obi during his eight-year tenure as Anambra State governor without assistance from the Federal Government.
“If you can name one, you get ₦20 million,” Omokri declared.
He added a pointed critique aimed at the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, saying:
“And yet, a man who could not build one IPP in eight years is telling Nigerians that he will solve their power challenge in two years. No be Gadus be that?”
The post has sparked heated debate across social media platforms, with supporters and critics of both politicians weighing in on the validity of Omokri’s claims and the context of governance in different states.
So far, no one has publicly met the criteria to claim the ₦20 million reward.
Analysts see Omokri’s challenge as part of ongoing political discourse over performance metrics among past and present leaders, especially in the lead-up to future elections and national development conversations.
Neither Peter Obi nor his spokesperson has issued an official response as of press time.
