Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited Unveils Pan-African Strategy at Africa Energy Week

Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited — operator of Nigeria’s largest upstream oil and gas joint venture — formally unveiled its continental growth strategy during the recently concluded Africa Energy Week (AEW) in Cape Town, marking the beginning of a bold new chapter in its regional ambitions and leadership role within Africa’s energy sector.

During a dedicated conference session, Renaissance’s Managing Director and CEO, Tony Attah, described the company as a catalyst for change across the continent’s energy landscape.

“We are Renaissance, not just by name but by mission,” Attah stated. “Our goal is to spark a new era for Africa — one that ensures energy security and drives industrialisation through sustainable means.”

Formerly known as The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), Renaissance is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Renaissance Africa Energy Holding Company. It operates the NNPC/Renaissance/TotalEnergies/AENR Joint Venture, overseeing a portfolio of 18 oil mining leases across Nigeria’s Niger Delta.

Attah highlighted the acquisition of Shell’s stake in SPDC by Renaissance’s parent company as a pivotal and visionary move.

“The SPDC acquisition was ambitious, but we approached it with confidence and purpose. Renaissance today represents a new identity and direction for Africa’s energy future,” he added.

Speaking earlier on the sidelines of the AEW conference, Renaissance Chairman Dr. Layi Fatona emphasized the company’s Afrocentric vision and its long-term commitment to leading Africa’s energy transformation.

“Our mission is to become Africa’s premier energy company — securing the continent’s energy needs while advancing industrialisation in a responsible and sustainable way,” Dr. Fatona said.

“We are not simply participants in Africa’s energy story; we intend to be authors of its next chapter. Our strategy starts in Nigeria but is built for scale across Africa.”

Throughout the Africa Energy Week — held from September 29 to October 3, 2025 — Renaissance executives played key roles in shaping industry discussions.

Tony Attah hosted a fireside chat focused on expanding the company’s brand presence, while Dr. Fatona took part in a panel on developing frontier assets in mature African basins, underscoring the importance of legacy resources in the continent’s energy transition.

With a clear and ambitious vision, Renaissance aims to lead the charge toward a more integrated, innovative, and sustainable energy sector across Africa.
