Information Minister Congratulates Danlami Nmodu on Election as GOCOP President

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has extended his congratulations to Mr. Danlami Nmodu, who emerged as the new President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) following a closely contested election held in Lagos.

The congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued by Rabiu Ibrahim Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Information and National Orientation.

Mr. Nmodu, publisher of Newsdiary Online, was praised by the Minister as a seasoned journalist with a longstanding record of professionalism and integrity.

“Mr. Nmodu, with whom I have had a personal and professional relationship for many years, is a thorough journalist who has proved his mettle in journalism, and is deserving of such commanding heights,” Idris stated.

The Minister also commended the immediate past President of GOCOP, Mrs. Maureen Chigbo, publisher of RealNews Online, for her leadership.

He noted her contributions to strengthening the Guild, which now comprises over 100 online publishers, and described her tenure as one marked by “honour, dignity, credibility and remarkable growth.”

Idris urged the new GOCOP leadership to promote unity within the Guild and build strong, inclusive relationships that reflect its collective mission.

“As I congratulate Nmodu, it pleases me to urge him to run an inclusive leadership that guarantees the participation of all GOCOP members in sustaining the collective aspirations of the Guild,” he said.

Emphasizing the need to tackle misinformation, disinformation, and fake news, the Minister encouraged GOCOP to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation in advancing media and information literacy nationwide.

“I am trusting Mr. Nmodu, who has built a distinguished career in journalism molded in integrity, accountability, courage, and resilience, also to bring the same to bear in collaborating with the government to uphold the values of media fidelity and literacy, especially in the fluid digital media space,” Idris added.
