PSC Promotes 93 Senior Police Officers, Elevates 13 CPs to AIG, 17 DCPs to CP
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers across various ranks, including the elevation of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to Commissioners of Police.
The promotions were approved during the Commission’s plenary meeting held on Wednesday at its corporate headquarters in Abuja, following the officers’ successful completion of written examinations and oral interviews.
Among the newly promoted AIGs are Itam Nnaghe Obono, former Commissioner of Police, Counter Terrorism Unit; Bassey Samuel Ewah, CP Plateau State; Osagie John Agans-Irabor, CP FCID Lagos; Monday Agbonika, CP Edo State; Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, CP Anambra State; Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, CP Welfare; and Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent, CP Benue State.
The Commission also promoted 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the rank of Commissioner of Police. They include Nelson Nwamanna, formerly DC CID Zone 11; Bolanle A. Murtala, DC Operations, Ogun State; Ibrahim Umar Zungura, DC FCID Abuja; Nuruddeen A. Sabo, DC Operations, Kaduna State; Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, DC Operations, Bauchi State; and Zainab A. Pembi of the Force Intelligence Department (FID), among others.
In addition, 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police. The beneficiaries include Ofili Felix, Mohammed Baba-Mala, Deborah O. Benary, Lot Garba Lantoh, Ijeoma Princewill Onyema, Oyedepo Olubisi, Amanyi Christopher, and Regina Mbanefo.
The PSC further approved the promotion of 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs). Those promoted include Mustapha Lawal, second-in-command, Area Command Gumel; Gafar Ajayi Adeyanju; and Nnamdi Lotanna Anabike, Divisional Police Officer, Central Police Station, Onitsha.
The Commission also confirmed the appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).
Speaking after the promotions, PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the officers and urged them to uphold professionalism, transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
Argungu cautioned the officers against involvement in civil disputes, particularly land-related matters, reminding them that integrity and reputation remain invaluable throughout and beyond their years of service.
“Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you,” he said.
