PSC extends police constable recruitment deadline as applications hit 400,000
The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has extended the deadline for the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 Police Constables by two weeks, following an overwhelming response from applicants nationwide.
In a press release issued on Monday, the Commission disclosed that more than 400,000 applications have been received since the recruitment portal opened on December 15, 2025. The application window, initially scheduled to close earlier, will now run until February 8, 2026.
According to the PSC, the extension became necessary after a review of the application data revealed wide disparities in participation across states. While states such as Adamawa, Benue, and Kaduna recorded high numbers of applicants, others including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Anambra showed relatively low turnout.
The Commission said the extension is aimed at promoting equitable representation from all parts of the country in the recruitment exercise. Eligible Nigerians, particularly from states with low application figures, have been urged to take advantage of the extended deadline and apply through the official recruitment portal.
The PSC also called on state governments, local government councils, traditional and religious institutions, sociocultural groups, and community leaders to intensify sensitisation efforts and encourage qualified youths within their areas to participate in the exercise.
Reaffirming its stance, the PSC, alongside the Nigeria Police Force, assured the public of a fair, transparent, and merit-based recruitment process.
The recruitment exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force and enhance security across the country.
